About this program:
Generally, cults, high-control groups and extremist communities, exist in isolation, separated from the outside world by both physical barriers and the mental walls they build around their beliefs. Despite the little insight we may gain into what goes on behind their closed doors, cults in their truest sense are a bold mirror offering a reflection on the meaning of freedom, restriction, obedience, rebellion, isolation and belonging - and evoking questions of authoritarianism and power. The recent history of cults within society and their persecution is therefore also laden with perturbing ambiguity.

Today, in a world where so many are seeking "the truth" and a sense of community, the line between group thinking, rigid dogmatism, cancel culture, new-age communities, fundamentalist ideologies and true fanatic cults has become increasingly difficult to discern. Cult-like tendencies seem omnipresent in all realms, from politics, to self-help and spirituality to economics, Causing the world to feel like a dense mash-up of polarized opinions and people feeding us the ‘right’ way to think.

This all has been inspiration for our sonic contemplation where we invite you into a (sometimes) fictitious world somewhere in time, in which beliefs and ideologies have reached cult-like states and the radio is blatantly used as a plattform for indoctrination. We de/reconstruct our own version of this reality by referencing and transmogrifiying cult music and speeches of the last decades.
